Tensilefabric projects in progress and completed

Project News

Dentsu

Completed

Designed by architect Nigel Tresise, Tensile fabric has just completed the installation of rather a unique double curve fabric wall to the reception of a particularly prestigious Japanese advertising agency, just off Oxford Street, in central London.

Formed from eight bays, the fabric is held in place via a small aluminium extrusion that holds the fabric securely and very neatly.

Modelled in the 3D, the steel and fabric forms were fabricated concurrently - finally being brought to site and erected out of the normal office hours to minimize disturbance to the client, who are now occupying the space. The fabric used is a Firex product.

Pod

Completed

Tensile fabric has recently designed and manufactured a this Pod for the Conference Connection, for one of their well known high street retail clients, as part of a touring exhibition providing information to their staff.

The Pod is constructed from aluminum laser cut profiles which form the outline of the frame (these are 90 degrees to each other on plan), in filled with GRP glass fibre rods to form the skeletal frame. The finished frame was then skinned with a spandex type fabric chosen due to its stretch, its good qualities for staying clean and light transmission values.

Conference Connection incorporated the plinth, interior lighting and a full interactive 50 inch plasma screen to communicate the information.

Egypt - Sharm El Sheikh Canopy

Completed

This exterior courtyard canopy to be installed in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt will be designed to consider sun protection requirements whilst creating a visually stunning feature within the courtyard of a Hotel/Diving school.

Further products at the same site are pending.

Blackberry Exhibition Canopies

Completed

For the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona 2010 Tensile Fabric were asked to create a number of Tensile Fabric features for Blackberry by Shelton Flemming.

The first feature was a number of classic conical shapes to both disguise the existing wall columns and create a great feature. These cones were internally lit via high and low level lighting accessible through vertical zips in the fabric. Further cone shapes were used to draw attention to the products else ware on the stand space.

Large ceiling elements were also installed to enclose the space and provide light reflectance using a white fabric - providing a very clean space.

Lanterns were also commissioned as part of the design - internally lit, they reinforced the Blackberry logo as well as adding high level colour.

Noahs Arc, Cairns Road, Bristol

Completed

Just completed on site - this canopy has been installed for this play group to provide both rain and sun protection.

Additional vertical sails (not added yet) add to the sun protection from the afternoon summer sun - providing excellent outdoor play space.

This canopy require 5 weeks for design, 7 weeks for manufacture and around 2 weeks for installation including foundations.

Maxim Park, EuroCentral, Motherwell

Completed

Just completed - these 2 canopies were installed as part of the landscaping of this new office development at EuroCentral, located of Motherwell, Scotland.

The canopy design has been slightly modified from a previous installation - substituting the machined aluminum parts for laser cut steel components - cutting costs substantially.

This canopy will form part of our new range of standard structures - coming soon.

Challenge House

Completed

Designed with attention seeking in mind, this canopy was commissioned to draw the attention of visitors to the entrance of this 1980' building in Bletchly.

The client requested a canopy that would stand out, so as to highlight their reception area - so that guests knew immediately where to head for.

The canopy incorporates a gutter edge detail on the fabric - down the uprights of the structure, channeling the water to the front centre to a soak away and to either end at the rear - where it surface drains.

The canopy is made from PVC coated polyester with a powder coated galvanized steel tubular frame. All rigging and clamp plates are 316 stainless steel.

The Square, Tallaght

Completed

This major refurbishment of the Square shopping centre in Tallaght, Dublin required some very large fabric thinking - to bring the space up to the modern standards that we all expect from our retail experiences.

The architects at Povell Worthington required a scheme to help draw the eye up, to appreciated the large space in the centre and to the new large information screens that were being installed. At the same time - the atrium space was suffering from too much direct sun light - during a majority of the year - which was also not ideal for the new video screens.

Tensilefabric proposed 4no. Propeller type sails to the centre, providing symmetrical form, as excellent surface for the new lighting, sun screening - and a improved feeling of moment in the space.

At the same time - 10no. large scallop edges sails we fixed to the south face of the space - tying into the existing steel with strap type clamp fixings to prevent any drilling of the existing steel to be required.

The installation works were all completed over a 2 week period using a 6 strong rope access crew - during the night to minimize disruption to the days shoppers.

The centre completes over the summer of 09.

Lizard Light House

New Project

Trinity House whose prime concern is the safety of shipping, and the well being of seafarers built their first lighthouse in 1609.

Tensile fabric as part of this exhibition designed, manufactured and installed a number of cube like light shades suspended from the ceiling mirroring elements of design at low level. The fabric used is polyester with the graphics printed using a die sublimation process.

Procarton

In Progress

This was an interesting project that had to be both creative and practical.

Our client requested us to design as part of an Exhibition stand a tree that followed the clients design but would be able to be used and re-used around the UK.

The tree was designed to zip onto the frames in sections for fast and effective set up time and all of the items could be packed down small enough to go into the boot of an estate car.

The graphics were printed onto the fabric using a Die Sublimation process which provides superior quality prints.
